The Subsecretary of Fisheries and Aquaculture of Tierra del Fuego is a government agency that holds a high-ranking position within the local administration and is responsible for overseeing and managing fishing and aquaculture activities in the region of Tierra del Fuego. Its typical function involves developing and implementing policies, regulations, and strategies to ensure sustainable and responsible fishing practices, promoting the growth and development of the aquaculture sector, conducting research and data collection, collaborating with other governmental and non-governmental organizations, and addressing any issues or challenges related to fishing and aquaculture in the region.
With the purpose of establishing a closer and more efficient relationship between the State and taxpayers involved in deep-sea and small vessel fishing in Tierra del Fuego, a process of digitization and simplification of procedures related to the productive cycle of this important economic sector has been implemented. This process aims to eliminate the use of paper and physical forms, which will speed up processes and reduce administrative burden for taxpayers while promoting a more sustainable and environmentally-friendly management.
Despite the benefit of being able to create Multi-AZ architectures and the availability levels that each of the services offers in the region, our client requested the assurance that their application will continue to function even in the event of a problem that affects all the resources within the Region where they are located.
To meet this objective, the “Failover Routing” functionality of Route 53 was configured to automatically detect, through the use of “Health Checks,” when the site in the primary region has stopped working, and thus redirect all user requests to the bucket in the secondary region.
The front-end was built using the AWS S3 pattern along with AWS CloudFront, designed to efficiently and securely distribute content. Thanks to this implementation, we have managed to develop a more flexible and scalable platform based on future needs.
Results
- The process to generate Legal Catch Certificates, which allows Deep-Sea Fishing vessels to export their products without even touching port, was accelerated and made more efficient. Often, these products are sold while the vessels are still at sea.
- The generation of export certificates and denomination of origin was reduced from 15 days to 2 hours, relieving a significant administrative burden for the secretariat’s team and the contributors.
- A data lake was built to leverage Machine Learning services and improve the adaptive allocation of fishing quotas by species, increasing ecosystem sustainability and reducing environmental impact.
